Bathroom Renovation

 The primary challenge of this bathroom renovation was preparing the shower pan to achieve the required 1/4-inch slope to the drain, something the client initially believed would not be possible with the existing layout. During the initial consultation, it was determined that the proposed shower installation would require removal of the existing concrete floor in the shower area. This step was necessary to complete the new plumbing rough-in and properly reconfigure the shower base. Once the client saw that we could make their vision possible, excitement quickly replaced doubt as new concrete was poured to create the correct slope and ensure proper drainage to the shower drain. 

We maintained clear communication with the client, providing progress updates and realistic completion timelines. The project was completed on schedule.

The main objective was to replace the existing bathtub with a larger, updated shower. This required evaluating whether a wall could be moved and assessing the plumbing and electrical changes needed for the new layout.

The first step was determining if the wall was load bearing. After inspection, we confirmed it was non-load bearing, allowing the new design to proceed safely. We then reviewed the shower drain and valve locations to ensure the plumbing would work within the existing framing, with no structural obstructions identified. Finally, the electrical system was evaluated, and all required updates were confirmed to be feasible.

During the consultation, we found the original bathtub was in excellent condition and worth preserving. However, the homeowners rarely used it because the bathroom lacked a functional shower. The existing vanity layout also made the room feel cramped and restricted the flow of the space.

To improve functionality and value, I recommended keeping the bathtub while adding a shower system and glass enclosure, creating a more practical, modern feature without the cost of full replacement. I also redesigned the vanity layout by relocating the tall storage cabinet, which opened up the room and improved both appearance and usability.

 Our team managed the entire project from design through completion, including establishing timelines for material procurement, coordinating cabinet orders, scheduling subcontractors and inspections, and maintaining consistent communication with the homeowners throughout the process. The clients were thrilled with the final results and have continued referring us to friends and family for several years since the project was completed.

We designed the shower to take full advantage of the layout, installed a new vanity for improved storage and usability, and completed the renovation with updated LVP flooring to enhance the overall appearance and durability of the bathroom.

 After our meeting, I reviewed my notes and created a design concept built around those conversations. The vision centered on crisp white wall cabinets to brighten the room, paired with rich wood-stained base cabinets to add warmth, contrast, and character. Every detail was selected with purpose. 

  By the end of the project, the transformation was incredible. The clients were overwhelmed with excitement seeing their new kitchen come to life. What started as uncertainty during our first meeting turned into a space that felt custom, intentional, and uniquely theirs. They expressed how much they appreciated not only the final result, but also the guidance, communication, craftsmanship, and trusted team that made the entire experience enjoyable from start to finish. 

   I’ve completed several projects for this client over the years, and they had been considering a kitchen remodel for quite some time. During our initial consultation, we discussed the areas they most wanted to improve in the original kitchen. Two priorities stood out immediately: relocating the kitchen sink so it would be centered beneath the existing window, and finding a creative solution for the brick chase next to the range that extended through the roof and remained in use. 

 I still see these clients occasionally at social gatherings, and they often share how proud they are of their kitchen. When guests visit their home, they frequently ask, “Who did your kitchen?” Without hesitation, they answer, “Carl Schwagmeyer. He’s done several projects for us.”
